At first, things were going smoothly. Then we go to the airport. Soon after we got there (around 5:30 for a 7:00am flight) we found out that the flight we were to take to JFK was canceled. (Mind you, we were afraid two of our group were not going to make it as they had gotten into a fender-bender on the way there... and they had left earlier than the other four of us.)
So, we stood in line and waited and waited and waited to get them to get us plane flights to JFK (they wanted us to leave at 7 that night, which would get us there 12 hours later than we had originally wanted... and THEN they wanted us to take the 7am flight THE NEXT DAY!... yeah... that did not last long...). So we finally got on the 11am flight ad arrived safely in NYC. We went to the dinner connected to the hotel for dinner (and numerous meals and snacks over the weekend).
By far, the most expensive part of the trip was the food. We expected certain prices on the tickets to the show (we saw an Off-Broadway production of The Fantasticks) as well as the souvenirs we bought. The food was really out there in pricing for just the average place! But we ate at an Irish pub, got pizza, got wet and cold, had a snowball fight on Liberty Island, walked through Central Park, went into the Empire States Building, saw all sides of Times Square, lived right down the street from Madison Square Garden, had Starbucks twice (getting tickets in the cold is no fun without hot chocolate!), explored F.A.O. Schwartz, and bought stuff from street vendors (food and a purse and scarves and pictures).
Here are some of the places mentioned above!
Times Square
Snow Ball Fight at Liberty Island
View From Our Hotel Room
Central Park
In the Carriage
(We rode it through Central Park and an Irish guy was the driver)
The Subway
(As ScarletOwl said: The people ride in a hole in the ground!")
At the Pig and Whistle near Times Square
Radio City Music Hall in the Distance
View from the Empire States Building
Scarlet Owl and The Short One on top of the Empire State Building
Overall, we had a great time. Now... owl needs to find the next adventure... since I bought two owls at the F.A.O. Schwartz Harry Potter display. Oh yes, now I have an owl to take along and say "Owl see you there!"
Till next time!
